How do I backup my database?
Performing a regular backup is one of the most important administrative tasks in I-T System implementation. If you don't perform regular backups, you risk losing irreplaceable training data. If your I-T System is part of your company's ISO 9000 or QS 9000 audit, these training records are essential.

We recommend using 3 floppy disks. Label disk 1 'monthly', label disk 2 'odd' and label disk 3 'even'. Now using the monthly disk, do a backup at the end of each month. With the odd and even disks, alternate weekly backups. This way if one floppy is bad, you always have two more you can use! If your computer does not have a floppy drive, you can backup to another hard drive too. The key is to have the database backed up somewhere besides the current drive where the courses are installed.

  1. Click the Start button, select Programs, Paulson Training Programs or Iprax CourseWorks 3.2.
  2. Select Track
  3. Once Track is open, click on the Database tab.
  4. Click the Tools button.
  5. Click the Backup button.
  6. Choose your backup directory from the list box on the right. Example: If you want it to be backed up to the floppy click the "[-a-]" listing in the box.
  7. Click the Start button on the Database Backup screen, and follow the on screen instructions.

When I run the main menu organizer, not all of my courses show up. How do I add them to my tic-tac-toe screen?
Sometimes after the main menu organizer is run, some of the course still don’t show up on the tic-tac-toe screen. When this happens, the courses will need to be added manually. Here are step-by-step instructions to guide you through this process.
  1. Select Start > Programs > Paulson Training Programs > Group Setup.
  2. Choose Contents from the bottom of the screen.
  3. From the tool bar (top left) select Group then Open, and click on the Paulson group. Click OK.

  5. In the title field, type the course you want to add (i.e.PIM – Expert)
  6. Uncheck the "Pass/Play" option in the check box
  7. In the right-hand column click on the file that corresponds to the course (for Pim-Expert the file is #adv3dmm.bmp)
  8. Click OK
  9. Select courses from the Courses and Subgroups column (left column) and ADD>> to the PIM-Expert Subgroup.
  10. Select Main from the Subgroups (right-hand column) drop down menu.
  11. Find the PIM-Expert course name in the left hand column.
  12. Add this course name to the Main column on the right, using the ADD button.
  13. With the new course you just added highlighted, you can use the Up and Down buttons below this column to adjust where this button will appear on the Main Menu.
  14. Now choose Group from the tool bar (top left) and Save.
  15. Close the window using the X in the upper right hand corner or the window.

When I exit a course, my system crashes. Why?
When a course crashes on exit, it is usually related to the CTFMON.EXE program. This is a hand writing and speech recognition program that runs in the background on some systems.

To test if this is the cause:

  1. Bring up Windows Task Manager by pressing Ctrl-Alt-Del and clicking the Task Manager button.
  2. Choose the Processes tab.
  3. Scroll down the file listing until you see the CTFMON.EXE program.
  4. End that task.
  5. Try running a lesson again.
  6. If it works correctly when you exit, you will need to permanently remove the CTFMON.EXE program. Download these two documents for information and instructions.

What is the difference between a Just Play, Hybrid and Full install?
CD-ROM (JustPlay) means the least amount of program files will be copied to your hard drive in order for the course to function. The student will have to insert the appropriate CD-ROM to take a lesson.

Hybrid — means all files except the large .avi movie file will be copied to your hard drive. The student will still have to insert the appropriate CD-ROM to take a lesson.

Full — means the entire contents of the disk is copied to your hard drive and the CD itself will not be required to take a lesson. (requires approx. 500 MB of hard disk space per lesson)

How come my extrusion programs won’t play video?
This is caused because the video codec on the computer is too 'new'. Simply install one of these two codecs below and your video will start to play fine.

Solution 1 — (this solution is best if running other courses besides extrusion as well): Download IV5setup.exe from the support sections of our website.

Solution 2 — Located on Extrusion 7, 8, or 9 is a file called IVI_NT95.EXE. Run this exe program. (When you run this .exe, it will say the version on the computer is newer and can't overwrite it. Just say OK and it will install anyway.)

When I am in Track and I try to add a student, the screen display gets all messed up and I can’t read anything.
This Issue lies in improper screen refresh and is Windows related.

Unfortunately, there is no complete fix for this problem. One effective workaround is, when you launch Track, click on the Profile button. The screen will be messed up. Click OK, then click on the Profiles button again. Now all the screens will look ok in Track.
